Make Appointments & Get Care

Overview

When liver cancer forms in the cells and tissues of the liver, surgery might be needed to remove a portion of the organ.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is the most common type of liver cancer in adults. It can appear as a single tumor or as many small nodules spread throughout the liver (nodules often form in people who also have a damaged liver from chronic liver disease).

UR Medicine's Approach

Liver cancer is in a group known as gastrointestinal (GI) cancers, which include pancreatic and gallbladder cancers.

Studies show that cancer patients treated by specialists have better outcomes. Each of our fellowship-trained surgeons at Wilmot Cancer Center specializes in a particular type of cancer. They also work with medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, nutritionists, and other team members to ensure the best result for each patient.
