Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Training Program
Welcome from the Program Director
Frederick S. Ling, M.D.
Director, Interventional Fellowship Program
Associate Professor of Medicine/Cardiology
Director, Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory
The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program is designed to provide an outstanding clinical experience through a combination of case-based training, regular teaching sessions, involvement in clinical research, and close interaction with a group of dedicated and enthusiastic faculty members.
Fellows benefit from the large volume and exceptional variety of interventional procedures undertaken in the cath lab for coronary, peripheral arterial and structural heart disease. A busy primary angioplasty program likewise provides an invaluable training opportunity. Exposure to the most current interventional techniques and devices, for example radial artery access and percutaneous left ventricular assist device therapy, is available. Fellows receive training in the gamut of peripheral endovascular procedures including lower extremity, renal, mesenteric, subclavian, and carotid artery revascularization, as well as in state of the art therapies for structural heart disease including percutaneous PFO and ASD closure, treatment of valvular heart disease, and alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
Regular formal teaching conferences, “roundtable” case-review sessions, journal clubs, and daily interactions between the fellows and faculty afford a broad and current knowledge base and emphasize critical thinking. Opportunities for clinical research are abundant, and many fellows have published and/or presented original research during their training.
The Interventional Cardiology Fellowship Program at The University of Rochester accepts two trainees per year. Applicants must have graduated from or currently be enrolled in a 3-year ACGME accredited general cardiology program.
