The fellowship in Critical Care Medicine is open to candidates with a background in Anesthesiology. The one-year fellowship is based in the intensive care units of Strong Memorial Hospital and Highland Hospital.

The fellow is exposed to a multidisciplinary environment and a combined educational program with Medicine and Surgery, and includes multiple role models in critical care. The fellowship is accredited by the ACGME and fulfills the requirements for subspecialty board in all the patient boards.

Program Director

Dr. Peter Papadakos has been actively collaborating with investigators throughout the US and Europe on a number of multicenter funded projects. Over the last 2 years he and his colleagues have been investigating how mechanical ventilation impacts on atelectasis and surfactant dysfunction. The group is also looking at the effect of sedative agents on cytokine modulation in the lungs. In addition, Dr. Papadakos is working on several research projects with national organizations such as ASA and AORN to improve human to technology interfacing when preventing electronic distraction.
