Rochester, New York is at the intersection of the Great Lakes and the Finger Lakes. The Rochester, NY area is located in Western New York by Lake Ontario and is adjacent to the scenic Finger Lakes region, a world famous wine-producing district with hundreds of hiking trails and gorges. The Rochester area is famous for performing and fine arts, with one of the top music schools in the country, the Eastman School, and Kodak both calling Rochester home. Rochester has significant industrial strength in visual sciences with other companies like Xerox, Bausch and Lomb and CooperVision with roots in Rochester. Rochester hosts many festivals over the course of the year, including the International Jazz Festival and the Lilac Festival and art fairs, including the Corn Hill Festival. Both ski areas and water recreation are easily accessible. Biking and jogging trails, including along the historic Erie Canal, are abundant. There are also many locations to join recreational sports leagues and a selection of many gyms to keep in shape. Fine dining options are plentiful both in the city and suburbs, including the New York State Wine and Culinary Center on the shores of Canandaigua Lake. Many wineries and breweries are close by. The Buffalo / Niagara region, including Niagara Falls is a short drive away. The Adirondack mountains are easily accessible for weekend trips and are especially beautiful in the fall. Toronto (bring your passport!), Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Detroit are all within a comfortable 8 hour drive or less.
