BS/MS Program in Immunology, Microbiology and Virology

Program Objectives

This degree program prepares graduates for careers in biomedical research by allowing qualified University of Rochester undergraduates to earn both BS and MS degrees in five years. The MS in Immunology, Microbiology, and Virology provides intensive, advanced training in immunology, microbiology, virology, and biotechnology.

Students develop hands-on research experience and practical professional skills, including critical scientific thinking, scientific communication, teamwork, problem-solving, data analysis, and drug discovery. The program emphasizes the interconnected nature of biomedical science and the collaborative skills needed in today’s research workforce.

Admissions

Eligibility

• Current University of Rochester undergraduate student
• Strong academic record
• Minimum 3.3 GPA in the major
• Demonstrated commitment to research, such as Independent Research (IND/MBI 395)

Pre-Application Requirements

• One letter of recommendation from a research advisor or professor in the major discipline
• Official transcript
• Interview with the program director and members of the admissions committee

• Three letters of recommendation from professors in the major discipline; letters submitted for the pre-application may be reused
