Ms. Laniewski is a board-certified Genetic Counselor in Reproductive Genetics. Her primary role is to meet with families who have a higher chance of having a baby with a genetic condition or birth defect. Her goals are to provide families with information about a specific condition, discuss testing, management, and/or treatment options, and provide psychosocial support throughout the process. Ms. Laniewski's approach to counseling is to present technical information in a way that is meaningful to the individual.
Ms. Laniewski joined the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine in 2004. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Biotechnology from the Rochester Institute of Technology and her Master of Science degree in Genetic Counseling from UNC Greensboro. During this time she completed clinical training in prenatal, pediatric, and cancer genetics at Wake Forest University, UNC Chapel Hill, and Duke University. Ms. Laniewski is certified by the American Board of Genetic Counseling.
