Pneumonia: What Can We Do?
Pneumonia in a patient who is chronically dependent on a ventilator :
- Is one of the most serious health risks of being chronically dependent on a mechanical ventilator
- Is linked to increased morbidity and mortality
There are steps you can take to help reduce the risk of pneumonia in your chronically ventilator dependent patients
HOME-AIR: a prevention bundle
With support from the Greater Rochester Health Foundation (GRHF), the Complex Care Center (CCC) has researched and developed an evidence-based treatment bundle called HOME-AIR
H - head of bed elevated
O - oral care
M - medical nutrition consult
E - education
A - airway clearance
I - inner cannula/trach care
R - regular check-ups
This bundle is appropriate for patients who are vented all or part of each day
