Evaluation and Psychotherapy

To schedule an appointment at the DWC for evaluation or psychotherapy, call (585) 273-5050 voice or fill out our online form.

The DWC provides counseling and psychotherapy services to individuals 17 years and older, as well as to couples and families. We also conduct a number of psychotherapy groups and, by special arrangement, forensic and other special evaluation and consultation services.

Some common reasons for psychotherapy or counseling referrals include:

  • Depression/sadness
  • Grief/loss
  • Anxiety/panic/worry
  • Stress
  • Serious mental disorder (e.g., psychosis)
  • Mood difficulties
  • Communication problems
  • Relationship or family conflicts
  • Sexual identity issues
  • Deaf identity issues
  • Domestic violence

The DWC generally does not accept cases for court-ordered evaluation or treatment, including those pertaining to sex offenses or child abuse/neglect.

In addition to psychotherapy and counseling provided by our sign-fluent therapists, the DWC can prescribe psychotropic medications, when needed, through our consulting psychiatrists and psychiatric residents.

The DWC provides evaluation and psychotherapy services on an outpatient basis only. Inpatient and partial hospitalization services are available through the URMC Department of Psychiatry where interpreter services will be provided.
