Admission Requirements

1) Applicants must participate in the National Matching Program of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS) of the American Association of Dental Schools and the in the MATCH selection process

Applicants apply through the Postdoctoral Application Support Service (PASS), and must participate in the Match selection process.

2) Applications will be considered from graduates or senior dental students of dental schools accredited by the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and be eligible for dental licensure in the N.Y.S and the U.S. to be considered for the 72 months OMFS-MD program. IMPORTANT- PLEASE READ: Admissions Requirements for 72-Month Program.  U.S. citizens, permanent residents and non U.S. citizens who are eligible for dental licensure in the N.Y.S and the U.S. are eligible to apply for the 48 month OMFS certificate program.

3) Applicants assume full responsibility for submitting the required materials to PASS before October 15th

4) The oral and maxillofacial surgery faculty will review the application materials when they are complete.  During review, the application will be considered without regard to gender, race, age, color, religion, or national origin.  Criteria for selection include class rank, research experience, extracurricular experience in dental school, postgraduate education or experience, and letters of recommendation.

5) Promising candidates will be invited to Rochester for an interview at the beginning of November. The personal interview is required for final consideration.  

6) During the interview, the applicant will meet with the oral and maxillofacial surgery faculty, who will answer the applicant's questions about the program. Applicants will also be evaluated by the residents. The OMFS-MD program candidates will also meet with the Medical School Admissions committee during this time. The evaluation by the OMFS faculty and residents is objective and subjective, and encompasses such factors as:  Academic achievements in addition to motivation for a career in oral and maxillofacial surgery, suitability specifically for the URMC oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program, professional demeanor, future career goals.

Application Process

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department will be holding virtual interviews for prospective candidates for both programs for the 2021-2022 academic year on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7th., by invitation.  Contact Ms. Lisa Lord (info below) for more information.
