Required Rotations

4 year Certificate OMFS program

First year

  • 10 months of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital, AC-4 OMFS ambulatory clinic
  • 2 months of Internal Medicine

Second year

  • 6 months of General Surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital
  • 5 months of Anesthesia at Strong Memorial Hospital
  • 1 month of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital, AC-4 OMFS ambulatory clinic

Third year

  • 9-10 months of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital, AC-4 OMFS ambulatory clinic
  • 1 month of elective surgical rotation with Oculoplastic Surgery
  • 1 month of Plastic-ENT
  • 2 weeks with Plastic Surgery/Craniofacial
  • Up to 2 weeks of research

Fourth year

  • 12 months of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Strong Memorial Hospital, AC-4 OMFS ambulatory clinic

6 year integrated M.D./Certificate OMFS program

First Year

  • 50% MD program and 50% OMFS residency (PGY-1)

Second Year

  • 50% MD program and 50% OMFS residency (PGY-2)

Third Year

  • Full-time in the MD curriculum with electives time utilized to complete OMFS requirements in anesthesia

Fourth Year

  • Full-time in the MD curriculum with elective time utilized to complete OMFS requirements in anesthesia

Fifth Year

  • Full-time intern in the Department of Surgery at the University of Rochester Medical Center's Strong Memorial Hospital (PGY-3)

Sixth year

  • Full-time resident in the OMFS Department (PGY-4)

Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) degree along with the OMFS Certificate

The OMFS program at the University of Rochester is offering an Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) degree along with the OMFS Certificate program.

  • The EMBA degree will be offered to one resident in the 48 month OMFS certificate program.
  • The EMBA will be earned from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester
  • The EMBA will be earned within 3 years.
  • The EMBA will not interfere with the duration, the experience nor the responsibilities of the trainees.
