The Advanced Education Program in Periodontology and Dental Implant Surgery at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health stands as a premier three-year training program that not only develops expertise in all aspects of periodontal and dental implant therapy but also shapes the leaders of tomorrow. By combining rigorous academic coursework with hands-on clinical experience, active research participation, and valuable teaching opportunities, this program offers a holistic approach to professional development. Fully accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association, it provides a Certificate in Periodontics, with the added advantage of pathways to a Master’s degree and PhD.
The program’s fundamental purpose is to cultivate exceptional Board-Certified Periodontists who are well-versed in the latest advancements in Periodontal, Dental Implant science, and Interdisciplinary treatment. Graduates emerge with outstanding clinical acumen and a deep commitment to evidence-based treatment methodologies, equipping them to meet the challenges of modern patient care. Program Director
As the Program Director, I am honored to introduce you to our esteemed Periodontology Residency. Our three-year advanced education program in periodontology is designed to provide residents with a comprehensive foundation in clinical excellence, evidence-based research, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
At Eastman Institute for Oral Health, we take pride in cultivating an environment where residents develop the surgical expertise, critical thinking skills, and scientific knowledge necessary to become exceptional clinicians and leaders in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Our program integrates advanced clinical training with cutting-edge research opportunities, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to excel in academia and/or private practice.
Residents benefit from mentorship by distinguished faculty, comprehensive training including regenerative therapies and digital workflows, and IV sedation training to enhance their patient management skills. Through close collaboration with Prosthodontics, Orthodontics and other dental specialties, we emphasize a multidisciplinary approach to comprehensive patient care.
Residents also receive preparation for the American Board of Periodontology examination, through faculty mentorship and mock board exams.
Additionally, residents have the opportunity to engage in research projects that may be clinical in nature or conducted in collaboration with basic science and translational research labs at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC).
Beyond clinical and academic training, our program fosters a strong sense of collegiality and professional growth. We are committed to supporting our residents in achieving their career goals while advancing the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry through innovation and scholarship.
