Inpatient Block

First-year: The 2-week inpatient block is run primarily by the 1st year fellows. The fellow is the team leader, incorporating a multidisciplinary group that includes nurse practitioners, diabetes educators, medical students, and residents.

The first-year fellow continues to participate in the two continuity clinics on a weekly basis while being on the inpatient block. The fellows are scheduled with their own patients under the guidance of an attending preceptor.

The following clinics are continued during the inpatient block

Diabetes Clinic

The first-year fellows have a diabetes continuity clinic one half-day per week thru out their fellowship, where they work closely with faculty, diabetes educators, and nutritionists, to master the care of type 1 and type 2 diabetics.  This clinic provides fellows with extensive training in insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring.

General Endocrine Clinic

Throughout their fellowship, fellows have a general endocrine continuity clinic one half-day per week.   Here they see patients with all endocrine disorders, including thyroid dysfunction or cancer, adrenal disease, bone disorders, obesity, transgender issues, and much more.  During their third year, fellows see patients independently, with faculty supervision only as needed.

Call Service: The call service is shared by the 1st and 2nd-year fellows with an average of 1-2 night call(s) per week and an average of 1 weekend per month.
