Nicholas E. Nacca, MD FAACT FACMT
Program Director of Medical Toxicology
Dr. Nacca completed an Emergency Medicine residency program at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse NY in 2013. He went on to complete his Medical Toxicology Fellowship training program in 2015 at the Upstate Poison Control Center in Syracuse NY, where he has maintained voluntary faculty status as a consultant. He has been a faculty member at the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine since 2017.
He now serves as director of the division of Medical Toxicology and the Medical Toxicology fellowship program. He maintains board certifications in Emergency Medicine, Medical Toxicology and Addiction Medicine. He is active in both American College of Medical Toxicology as well as the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. His focus is on ensuring state of the art clinical, educational, and scholarly production from the Medical Toxicology division at University of Rochester Medical Center.
David P. Toomey, M.D.
Director of Medical Toxicology clerkship
David Toomey, MD earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and underwent residency training at the Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He completed his Fellowship in Medical Toxicology at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY where he currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the division of Medical Toxicology.
In addition to bedside clinical care, Dr. Toomey currently serves as the director of the Medical Toxicology clerkship at URMC for medical students, EM residents, and off-service resident rotators. He also currently serves as the Toxicology liaison to the URMC Emergency Preparedness Committee and the URMC EM Decon committee. He is an active member of the American College of Medical Toxicology and the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.
Dr. Toomey’s research interests include Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome, pediatric THC intoxication, substance use disorder withdrawal/management, and emergency preparedness for chemical agent exposure.
Core Faculty of the Medical Toxicology Fellowship training program
Mayank Gupta, MD, is a board-certified emergency medicine physician and fellowship-trained medical toxicologist. With a background in Industrial Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and a medical doctorate from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, he brings a unique perspective to emergency medicine and toxicology.
He completed his Emergency Medicine residency at Beaumont Hospital–Royal Oak and fellowship training in medical toxicology at the Emory University/CDC program. Dr. Gupta currently practices at the University of Rochester Medical Center and Golisano Children’s Hospital, where he manages a broad spectrum of toxicological emergencies and provides care in the field of addiction medicine. His professional interests include improving healthcare systems, promoting harm reduction strategies, and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.
Amber Patt, PharmD.
Clinical Director for the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program
Amber Patt earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. She completed a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency at Grady Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia and a PGY2/Toxicology Fellowship at the Georgia Poison Center.
She practices at the University of Rochester Medical Center in Rochester, NY as the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Toxicology and Addiction Medicine. As a clinical toxicologist, she is a working member of the toxicology and addiction medicine rounding team throughout UR Medicine hospitals as well as Golisano Children's Hospital. Dr. Patt serves as the clinical director for the Opioid Overdose Prevention Program at UR Medicine, and as a member of the Opioid Safety Committee.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she is an active member of the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology. She serves as a preceptor for APPE students as well as PGY1, PGY2 Critical Care, PGY2 Emergency Medicine and PGY2 Pediatric residents. Dr. Patt's research interests include nerve agent and agricultural chemical exposures and chemical disaster preparedness, native snake envenomation, exotic snake envenomation, novel psychotropics, and substance use disorder withdrawal and management.
