Research & Mentorship

What our residents say...

"I never imagined I could be both a resident and a researcher, but the supportive mentorship at URMC PM&R made it possible. With guidance from faculty like Dr. El-Hassan, I’ve learned to turn clinical questions into meaningful research. The collaborative, uplifting culture here truly helps me reach my full potential."

PM&R Residents standing next to posterURMC PM&R residents have the opportunity to participate in structured, supervised research with PM&R faculty, as well as collaborate with faculty from other departments and institutions. Scholarly activity, such as a research project or clinical case study report, is a requirement for graduation from the PM&R residency program.

Mentorship for research projects is available through individual faculty advisors and research mentors. Residents complete research projects on various topics of their interest and present their research at national PM&R meetings. Research Day is a yearly event where residents present their quality improvement projects, research progress, and research ideas to the faculty and their peers and receive feedback.

The optional Resident Research Track is an excellent opportunity that provides residents with dedicated research time during residency to conduct research with the guidance of a research mentor.
