Message from the Director

Clinton Morrison in SurgeryThank you for your interest in the Plastic Surgery Residency at the University of Rochester Medical Center. We consider our residency program to be the "life blood" of our division, and we strive to maintain a program that attracts the very best candidates for training. I can honestly say that our faculty are truly committed to the success of our trainees. Our track record of producing leaders in the field speaks for itself.

The Plastic Surgery Residency Program comprises an integrated curriculum, with six years of dedicated surgical training at URMC and surrounding facilities. During this time, residents receive graduated responsibility in all aspects of plastic surgical care. Residents train with seven full-time faculty at Strong Memorial Hospital, six core faculty members at our affiliated institution Rochester General Hospital as well as several participating community plastic surgeons. Our faculty are truly world class—most fellowship-trained and nationally recognized for their clinical expertise and educational commitment.

An abundance of clinical material is available, and residents routinely participate in the entire spectrum of plastic surgical cases such as craniofacial anomalies, reconstructive microsurgery, cosmetic surgery, hand surgery, and general plastic surgery. We conduct a robust educational program, with didactic conferences, skills lab sessions, and core competency-directed exercises specifically designed to ensure that residents acquire the necessary skills to tackle all clinical scenarios.

Residents are strongly encouraged to participate in research during their time in Rochester, both clinical and basic science, and have multiple opportunities to engage in such activities throughout the institution.

Finally, Rochester, NY is an ideal location for surgical training because of its manageable size, abundance of cultural experiences, and varied outdoor activities. In short, we are certain that you will be impressed with our residency program in Plastic Surgery.

Clinton Morrison, M.D.
