How to Apply

Rabih M.Salloum MD and Residents

*Note: Keeping in mind issues of equity and safety surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic & in alignment with the AAMC, COPA and institutional guidelines, all interview activities for the 2023 Match will be conducted virtually.

Candidates for residency are selected through the National Resident Matching Program. The Department of Surgery maintains two separate match numbers, one for categorical residents and one for designated preliminary positions.

We accept only electronically submitted application packages through the ERAS, available at your medical school dean's office. Three letters of recommendation are required in addition to the Dean's letter. These letters should come from full-time faculty members in surgery. One must come from the Chairman of the Department or the General Surgery Program Director.

We do not require a minimum USMLE score, although all scores must be passing. While recognizing the USMLE test center limitations during COVID, a USMLE Step II is not required at the time of application. See our FAQ’s for additional information.

The selection committee reviews your complete application considering all provided information. The residency program selects the best qualified candidates regardless of their age, sex, race, creed, sexual orientation, national origin or handicap. The selection process focuses on information supplied in the application package: application form, personal statement, Dean's letter, scholastic accomplishments, letters of recommendation, USMLE scores and a personal interview.

Our application deadline is October 7, 2022. Only completed application packages are reviewed. After the Selection Committee has reviewed your completed file, and if you are offered an interview, you will be contacted via Thalamus, GME Interview Scheduling Software, to select a date for your interview. Therefore, it is critical that applicants check their e-mail frequently during the application period. Please be sure to include your preferred e-mail address as part of your ERAS® application.

**New For the 2023 ERAS® cycle, our program will be participating in the supplemental ERAS application offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants will be required to complete the MyERAS application, and participation in the supplemental ERAS application is optional.
