Robert D. Ambrosini, M.D., Ph.D.
Program Director, Associate Professor

I would like to welcome prospective candidates to the University of Rochester Department of Imaging Sciences Cardiothoracic Imaging fellowship. The fellowship is for a one year period and one position is available per year.

The fellowship provides comprehensive training in pulmonary and cardiac imaging. The services are CT, MRI, conventional radiography, and thoracic interventions. The service is a high volume service comprising both inpatient and outpatient exams with a wide range of pathology. The fellowship is designed to balance training between thoracic and cardiac radiology, however, the amount of time on each service can be altered to individual interests.

Pulmonary Imaging

University of Rochester is home to a regional pulmonary nodule clinic, regional referral for interstitial lung disease, LAM clinic, and regional cancer center (Wilmot Cancer Center).

Cardiac Imaging

University of Rochester is the regional heart transplantation center with a large heart failure group. In addition, Golisano Children’s Hospital is a regional pediatric cardiac surgery center. The fellow is expected to participate in these cardiac cases.

Thoracic Procedures

This component of the program will be supervised by the interventional radiology service. The fellow is expected to participate in CT-guided lung biopsies, thoracentesis, and thoracostomy tube placement.

Research

Fellows are expected to participate in research during training. Participation in national meetings is encouraged.

Teaching

The division of Cardiothoracic Imaging is recognized within the department for its commitment to teaching; several faculty members have won resident teaching awards. The fellows are expected to continue this tradition with daily teaching at the resident and medical student level. In addition, fellows will have the opportunity to present case conferences and lectures to the Imaging Sciences department.

Interdepartmental Conferences

The section participates in several interdisciplinary conferences; these include thoracic tumor board, pulmonary pathology, TAVI, and Cardiac MRI conferences. The fellow will be incorporated into the presentation of the cases for these conferences.

Call

The fellow will be incorporated into the call schedule on par with the faculty in the section.
