Event Details

The Great Lakes Microplastics Research Symposium: Integrating Environment and Health will be held on June 18, 2026, in Rochester, NY.

This interdisciplinary event will bring together experts and trainees in microplastics toxicology, analytical chemistry, aquatic ecology, biomedical, social, and environmental science, as well as private sector, government, and community stakeholders, to discuss emerging findings and prioritize needs for future work.

The Research Symposium will feature presentations, posters, and discussion broadly related to microplastics and health, with a primary focus on the Great Lakes environment (e.g., nearshore air, wastewater, soil, plant material, fish and other aquatic organisms) and implications for human health.  In addition to environmental and biomedical research, topics may also include (but are not limited to), analytical approaches, social context, and solutions.

Co-Sponsored by the University of Rochester Institute for Human Health and the Environment (IHHE) and the Environmental Health Sciences Center (P30ES001247), with support from the National Science Foundation (OCE-2616082) and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (R13ES038760). Hosted in partnership with the Lake Ontario MicroPlastics Center and the Great Lakes Center for Fresh Waters and Human Health.
