SMD’s CME Programming Reaccredited with Commendation for Another 6-year Term

ACCME

The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) recently completed its review of SMD’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program. The result was not only reaccreditation for another six years, but reaccreditation with commendation. “This decision is a testament to the hard work of our entire CME team and the quality of the continuing education that is offered. Commendation recognizes our school’s collaborative efforts in implementing best practices in pedagogy, engagement and evaluation, and for focusing on generating meaningful outcomes that  demonstrate the impact of education on healthcare professionals and patients”, said Janine Shapiro, MD, Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Medical Director of Continuing Medical Education, and a Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. “We are excited that we have achieved the special recognition of Accreditation with Commendation from the ACCME. Many individuals from across the UR system have contributed to this achievement as a result of the unique educational programs that have been implemented over the past six years. I am especially proud of the great work of the Office for Continuing Medical Education team and their dedication to ensuring compliance.”, said Mary Beth Ebersol, MSEd, Director of CME and Educational Programming. Their efforts have built and maintained a robust program of educational offerings that engage our faculty and clinicians, and keep them abreast of needed information.

The ACCME evaluates medical education programs according to standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations, including the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the United States. Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure the medical community and the public that the University of Rochester delivers education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.
