Our Opioid and Substance Misuse Course Bundle includes the following five courses:
- Opioid Crisis in Women's Health
- Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the patient who requires medication for management of opioid abuse.
- Describe risks and benefits of using medication-assisted treatment of opioid abuse in pregnancy.
- Identify barriers to the use of medication-assisted treatment in opioid abuse in pregnancy.
- Treatment of Substance Use Disorder in Pregnancy
- Learning Outcomes:
- Describe risks of substance use disorder in pregnancy.
- Explain risks/benefits of various treatments for substance use disorder in pregnancy.
- Postoperative Pain Management
- Learning Outcomes:
- Describe the opioid epidemic and the role medical professionals play.
- List major risks for chronic opioid use after surgery and ways to decrease them.
- Identify pain management strategies to help decrease postoperative opioid use.
- Discuss evidence for and against the use of specific analgesic agents.
- Pain Management of the Obstetric Substance Abuser
- Learning Outcomes:
- List common substances abused by pregnant women.
- Describe adverse physiologic and psychologic effects of pain during labor.
- Explain challenges associated with pain management in patients with substance use disorder.
- Identify common pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic modalities for pain management in patients with substance use disorder.
- Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome
- Learning Outcomes:
- Define the term “opiate epidemic” and the increased concerns for obstetric management and prenatal counseling.
- List signs and symptoms of opioid withdrawal in the newborn.
- Describe nonpharmacologic treatments and interventions for neonatal abstinence.
- Explain differences between exposure to methadone and buprenorphine.
- List benefits of breastfeeding the baby with neonatal withdrawal.
Continuing Education Credit
We offer each learner the option to include or exclude fetal monitoring strip interpretation with each course in the bundle.
- Opioid and Substance Misuse Course Bundle WITH Fetal Monitoring interpretation: Eligible for 9.25 CNE Contact Hours, including 2.6 EFM Hours and 9.25 Pharmacology Hours, and 9.25 CME AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
- Opioid and Substance Misuse Course Bundle (Excluding Fetal Monitoring interpretation): Eligible for 8.5 CNE Contact Hours, including 8.5 Pharmacology Hours, and 8.5 CME AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
