2026 Goergen Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching

Congratulations to URochester professor Laurel Carney (biomedical engineering and neuroscience) on winning 2026 Goergen Awards for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching!
Laurel Carney writes every student’s name on a playing card and draws from the deck to ask questions, so everyone is fair game. At semester’s end, students keep their cards as souvenirs. Tom Howard challenges students to “find a big problem” in robotics that can’t be solved in a decade or two. He also advises the Robotics Club and the student team in NASA’s Lunabotics Challenge.
Dr. Carney shows how URochester faculty are ever better at helping students learn, grow, and succeed.
