Providers

Appointment Information

Appointments and inquiries can be made in the following ways:

Your provider will decide whether a telehealth or in-office visit is most appropriate for your situation. Insurance companies are now covering telemedicine (online video) visits to help you maintain access to care during the pandemic.

Appointments are made to reserve a place for you in the schedule. If you cannot keep your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. Your appointment may have to be rescheduled if you are late. We recommend making appointments for nurse visits such as allergy injections, having blood drawn, blood pressure checks, etc. You may be charged for missed appointments when advanced cancellation notice is not given.

Additional Information

Our practice delivers babies at F.F. Thompson Hospital's Birthing Center, recognized by The Joint Commission for Advanced Perinatal Certification and by Excellus for Blue Distinction+ Maternity Care. At Thompson, the goal is for your prenatal care, labor, delivery and postpartum experience to be as fulfilling as possible. All of our providers try to be personally available to our patients for all their care – including labor and delivery – however, it is impossible to be on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Physicians and midwives rotate call coverage after hours, weekends, holidays, and during vacations.

Call our office in the event of:

  • Vaginal bleeding or spotting
  • Pelvic cramping or unusual abdominal pain
  • Temperature over 101°
  • Leakage of fluid from the vagina
  • Decreased or absent fetal movement

Labor: When to call

If this is your first child:

  • Contractions five minutes apart for about an hour
  • When your water breaks
  • If you have previously delivered: Strong and regular contractions, even if more than five minutes apart when your water breaks

Prescription Refills

Talk to your provider about your prescriptions/renewals at the time of your appointment. Make sure the provider prescribes enough medicine to get you through to your next appointment. For exceptions, allow 48–72 hours notice for prescription renewals. Please avoid calling Monday morning for prescription requests. The best time to call is between 10 a.m.–4 p.m., Tuesday–Friday.

When calling in your prescriptions, please have the following information available:

  • Name of medication
  • Current dose
  • How often medication is taken

Financial Policy

The role insurance carriers play in the delivery of patient care is a result of today's rapidly changing healthcare environment. Some insurance companies restrict us in certain ways. Examples of such restrictions include the medications we can prescribe, specialists you may be referred to, and the frequency and type of services we provide to you.

It is always the patient's responsibility to know exactly which services are covered by the insurance plan. If you have questions about your insurance provider's coverage, we encourage you to contact the customer service representative at your insurance company prior to your appointment.

Co-payments are required before seeing a physician or having any laboratory procedures performed in our office. Visa, MasterCard, check, and cash payments are accepted at all the family practice facilities.

If you do have insurance coverage, we will submit the claim to your insurance company. You may receive a bill in the mail reflecting any outstanding balance after insurance has paid on your claim. To remain in good standing, this bill should be paid within 30 days of the invoice date.

If you are uninsured at the time of service, you must pay your bill in full at the time services are rendered. If you have an HMO insurance that does not list one of our physicians as your Primary Care Physician (PCP), you must pay for services at the time of your visit. You may contact your customer service representative at your insurance company to change your PCP.

If you need help applying for insurance, please contact one of our Financial Counseling Team members at (585) 396-6720 or (585) 396-6015.

There are also payment options available for self-pay patients. Please ask the secretary how to arrange for these.
