Overview

Our Group Therapy Services offer an array of group-based treatments to persons 18 years and older. In group therapy sessions, a small number of people (usually eight) meet weekly under the guidance of a professionally trained group therapist. Group therapy can help people learn about themselves, improve their relationships, and develop better coping and symptom management skills. It addresses feelings of isolation, depression, and anxiety. Group therapy also can help with addictive disorders, problems with children, trauma, dealing with the aging process, and grief/loss.

When compared to individual therapy, group therapy has been shown to be as effective and, for some problems, more effective. In cases of medical illness, there is substantial evidence that this form of therapy helps people cope better with symptoms and enhances the quality of their lives.

Prior to starting group therapy, the group members each meet individually with the group therapist, who provides information about the group and what to expect.
