Dr. D'Angio's research focuses on clinical trials of therapies in the newborn. He is principal investigator for a combined University of Rochester-University of Buffalo site in the NICHD Neonatal Research Network, a 15-center consortium performing research in newborns. He has particular interest in immunizations and infections in the premature infant, lung injury, prevention of catheter-related infections, neonatal outcomes and clinical and research ethics.

The Hydrocortisone and Extubation study will test if giving hydrocortisone for 10 days improves survival for premature infants who have a breathing tube. Infants will either receive hydrocortisone or placebo.
