About Me
Dr. Butani practices a wide breadth of Interventional Radiology (IR); his primary area of clinical and research expertise is in renal tumor interventions. He has been invited to speak on this topic nationally and internationally. He has published his research in prestigious IR journals, such as the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Butani was the founding Program Director of the Interventional Radiology-Integrated residency program at the University of Rochester and served in this position until 2021. He was instrumental in getting full ACGME accreditation, with commendations, in 2021. He also served as Program Director of the Interventional Radiology Fellowship from 2014 to 2020. Over the last decade, he has mentored many medical students, residents and fellows, some of whom are his current colleagues.
Dr. Butani is a Fellow of the prestigious American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He has served as a Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair of the Intraoperative-Interventional community from 2017 to 2023. He has developed courses and course material for annual meetings and invited diverse expert speakers to speak at its annual conferences.
Dr. Butani is also the founding Associate Editor of the American Journal of Interventional Radiology. This open-access, peer-reviewed journal strives to provide free access to interventional radiology literature, especially in developing countries with limited resources. He established an Editorial Fellowship program that allows young Interventional Resident trainees to learn about the editorial process.
