Dr. Li Man joined the University of Rochester in 2011 as the first fellowship-trained rhinologist in the Rochester area. His clinical practice uniquely focuses mainly on sinus and nasal disease. Dr. Man strives to educate his patients regarding their healthcare problems, to tailor both medical and surgical therapy to the individual, and to involve his patients' goals and worldview in a team-based, shared decision making approach to improving their health and well-being. He is adept at both in-office and operating room-based sinonasal procedures, and he is earnest in his attempts to minimize discomfort, side effects, and recovery time.

Dr. Man's areas of clinical expertise includes the medical and surgical management of chronic sinusitis, sinonasal tumors, image-guided surgery, revision sinus surgery, endoscopic lacrimal and orbital surgery, CSF leak repair, and minimally-invasive anterior skull base surgery. He is also one of the few physicians in western New York with expertise in sialendoscopy, a minimally-invasive approach to managing disorders of the submandibular and parotid glands. He enjoys collaborating with colleagues in Allergy/Immunology, Ophthalmology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Pulmonology to promote patients' wellness. Dr. Man has published scientific articles and written book chapters in several areas of medicine. He has taught at rhinology and sinus courses both nationally and internationally, and he enjoys preparing the next generation of otolaryngologists to be excellent physicians and healers.

It's great working with Dr. Man

Sep 14, 2024

I am always happy to see Dr. Man. He is kind and amiable and always listens carefully to my description of symptoms and my concerns. During the examination and treatment, his movements are always very gentle and delicate. I can feel his meticulous care for the patients. He always considers the patients in every way. After each examination, he shows me and my husband the video of the examination and explains it to us in plain language so that we can understand it easily and answer our questions one by one patiently. He always spend enough time with me and discussion of any proposed treatment. His professionalism, respect, care and compassion for patients have earned his patients' complete trust. I would highly recommend Dr. Man to others.

Unfortunately, the provider did not have the opportunity to familiarize himself with my unusual condition. [...] When I asked if he had had any previous patients with my presentation/condition , he said fortunately no, but unfortunately for me. [...] He was very thorough with the scoping and explained areas of the nostril that we were viewing on the screen [...]. He was very sympathetic [...]I would recommend him highly for normal sinus-related conditions, but not to patients with my special needs.

This visit was post-operative. During the sinus cleaning Dr. Man was always very gentle and careful and he asked me if it hurt? After the treatment Dr. Man played the video recording and explained to my husband and me how it works so that we understand the importance of post-operative care and make me more confident of a full recovery. Every time see him my husband and I feel very happy and I feel his meticulous care. Dr. Man is a very responsible and excellent doctor who always tries his best to treat patients and relieve their pain. He is worthy of our trust. I highly recommend Dr. Man to others.

Dr. Man is an incredible doctor. He is so genuinely caring and invested. He was so dedicated to fix my problem that we took SO much time for my appointment, it probably equaled two appointments if not more. He involved me in my care, which I like and appreciate very much from a provider and we were able to solve the issue so that I don't have to come back. Dr. Schmale was also wonderful for hopping in and helping. The whole process everyone, especially Dr. Man, were very kind and respectful and made sure I was pain free and comfortable with everything. I wish all doctors were like him.

I have considerable loss of taste and smell. Dr. Man was interested in explaining the statistics about that for people 'my age' --I'm 70. I got the vibe that I'm old and that's that. I had to push to see If there were any treatments which he explained there were but likely wouldn't do me any good. The resident who did my work up and who I spent most of my time with treated me with dignity and respect. I learned more from him than Dr. Man. Dr. Man seemed to think not being able to taste or smell is just a quality of life issue which isn't that big of a deal. Well it deserves respect and empathy.I waited for over a decade to talk to my primary care doctor about it. She respected my concern and made the referral.
