Angela Hewitt, MD, PhD, is an assistant professor of Neurology, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center and director of the pediatric deep brain stimulation (DBS) program. She has clinical expertise in pediatric movement disorders, with a focus on neuromodulation therapy for both pediatric and adult patients with movement disorders. Her research interests include: understanding the underlying pathophysiology of dystonia, using electrophysiological techniques to characterize different movement disorders and the response to treatment, and optimizing deep brain stimulation (DBS) to better treat movement disorders.

Dr. Hewitt obtained a master’s degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She earned her MD and PhD degrees from the medical scientist training program at the University of Minnesota. Residency training in Child Neurology was completed at the Mayo Clinic, where she also attained a research year in Deep Brain Stimulation and was a chief resident. She then completed fellowships in Pediatric Movement Disorders and Experimental Therapeutics at the University of Rochester. She is currently a funded scholar through the Child Neurology Career Development Program (CNCDP) K12. She is co-chair of the Child Neurology Society (CNS) research committee, helped co-found the CNS Neuromodulation Special Interest Group, and is also active in research with the Pediatric DBS Think Tank.
