Annamarie is a MedPeds physician coming from Stony Brook University Hospital in Long Island, where she completed her residency in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. She did her medical school training at the Ponce Health Sciences University School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Her passion for competitive public speaking has earned her several awards, including New Jersey State Champion of Poetry Interpretation, while her interest in global health inspired volunteer efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria; and in Haiti, Brazil, Panama and Chile. Dr. Fernandes has been involved in several research projects, including evaluating accidental cannabis ingestions in toddlers, comparisons of baricitinib and tocilizumab in COVID-19, screening for vaping and access to healthcare for migrant workers. She has presented several of her research abstracts at both local and national conferences. Dr. Fernandes looks forward to the challenges of working with patients of all ages and plans to continue her work in Global Health and POCUS, as well as studying Flute with the Eastman School of Music. Dr. Fernandes speaks fluent Spanish and enjoys swimming, hiking, playing the flute, classical music, cooking, ultimate Frisbee, traveling and rock climbing.
