I am a board-certified primary care internal medicine physician who sees adults of all ages. I began my career in organic chemistry research and teaching, and I have additional teaching certifications in mindful self-compassion practice. Though I love the theory behind chemical transformations, a career in organic chemistry felt limiting. I feel fortunate to have found my way to primary care medicine. For me, there is no greater privilege than to serve others in a field where no problem – be it heart failure, erectile dysfunction, or grief – is off limits. Something I learned in my years of research remains true today: if I find myself stuck, it may be that I am working on the wrong problem. In primary care, patients lead me to the problems that are most important, and we can work toward shared values in an iterative and dynamic way. Specific interests of mine include cardiovascular disease and diabetes, liver disease, care of aging patients, death and dying, and the importance of meaning and purpose for general health.
