Dr. Maiden completed a DO-PhD in the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Michigan State University, graduating with Dean’s Recognition, where his research focused on developing new therapies for lung infections in children with cystic fibrosis and was supported by a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Traineeship and a Bertina Wentworth Endowed Fellowship.

Dr. Maiden completed his pediatric residency at William Beaumont Children’s Hospital, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a fellowship training in Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), supported by an NIH T32 training grant. Dr. Maiden’s research at CHOP focused on the role of specialized airway epithelial cells called tuft cells in regulating pulmonary inflammation following severe viral lung injury. His work identified a tuft cell–ILC2 circuit in the distal lung that helps regulate type 2 inflammation and subsequent responses to aeroallergens.

At the University of Rochester, Dr. Maiden is committed to the care for children with conditions such as bronchopulmonary dysplasia, neuromuscular weakness and asthma.
