Dr. Dumyati research focuses on healthcare associated infections (HAI) and antimicrobial resistance both of which contribute significantly to preventable morbidity and mortality, escalating healthcare and societal costs. She is the principal investigator for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Emerging Infection Program in Rochester, NY. The Emerging Infections Program is a national program for surveillance, prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases and consists of a network of 10 state health departments and their academic partners. Her program partners with New York State Health Department. The data collected is used to generate national burden of emerging infectious diseases, identify risk factors and guide prevention policies. The data is also used to guide local quality improvement projects to prevent healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance in both the local hospitals and nursing homes. Dr. Dumyati is a member of the Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the Infectious Diseases Society of American and AMDA/The Society of Post Acute and Long Term Care Medicine.
