Biography

Susan "Shellie" Yussman, MD, MPH, board-certified in General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, cares for 12-25 year olds with a range of adolescent health concerns including eating disorders, weight management, contraception, STD screening/prevention, gender health, anxiety, and depression. She is the Chief of the Division of Adolescent Medicine and the Director of the Adolescent Medicine Fellowship Program. She also serves as the Senior Pediatrician for the Hillside Family of Agencies. She is the former Medical Director of Threshold Center for Alternative Youth Services and collaborating physician for two local high schools. Dr. Yussman is passionate about improving adolescent health in our community and region through interprofessional biopsychosocial health care, exemplary education, and innovative research.

Research

Dr. Yussman's current interprofessional health services research is based in schools. Current programs include: 1) introduction of universal screening for sexually transmitted infections, 2) starting a first class breakfast program, and 3) providing group therapy to build resilience in students with adverse childhood events. Her past studies have included secondary analyses of nationally representative data, as well as primary data collection.
