Biography

Dr. DiGiovanni is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He sees adolescent and adult patients for a wide range of common and complex foot and ankle problems. His special expertise is in the area of Orthopaedic foot and ankle disorders including: ankle arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction, arthritic conditions, sports injuries and fractures and dislocations of the foot and ankle. He has a particular interest in foot and ankle sports medicine, and research based expertise in the areas of plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendinitis and tendonopathy, athletic ankle injuries, and chronic ankle pain in the athlete. Dr. DiGiovanni's goal is to deliver excellent medical care that produces optimal outcomes for all of his patients. Partnering and sharing knowledge with his patients helps Dr. DiGiovanni make the best decisions for patients to achieve active and fulfilling lifestyles. He is a highly knowledgeable, skilled researcher and educator with over 50 peer reviewed journal articles and chapters in publication.

Dr. DiGiovanni earned his medical degree and graduated with Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honors from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery and research. He went on to receive additional training in Orthopaedic foot and ankle disorders and sports medicine. Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowships were later completed at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham, Alabama.

In addition to being an active clinician, Dr. DiGiovanni is a researcher and medical educator and has achieved the rank of full Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Medical Center. Over 100 Orthopaedic residents and Orthopaedic foot and ankle Fellows have been trained by Dr. DiGiovanni. He has a strong focus on researching and publishing methods of optimizing medical education. His educational leadership roles at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Medical Center are vast and have included serving as Director of the Orthopaedic Sub-Internship program, Director of the Musculoskeletal Curriculum, Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Fellowship Director and a member of the Medical School's Admissions Committee and Medical Student Promotions and Review Board. Dr. DiGiovanni has held national leadership roles in education, including work with the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and has served as Chair of the Awards and Scholarship Committee and the Post Graduate Education Committee of the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. In 2011, he was recognized for his leadership role in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery by being inducted into the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA).
