His work reimagines eye care by weaving behavioral health directly into ophthalmology, addressing the disproportionate burden of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance use faced by patients with vision loss. Using trauma-informed, identity-affirming interventions that meet patients where they are, he aims to improve early detection of distress and increase adherence to sight-preserving treatments while enhancing quality of life. By pairing bold, pragmatic implementation studies with a pioneering behavioral health internship pipeline, this work builds scalable and sustainable models that reduce inequities, enhance patient outcomes, and cultivate the next generation of leaders in integrated vision and behavioral health care.
Dr. Boaitey holds a doctorate from the University of Rochester and a master's degree from the University at Buffalo. He is a New York State-licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Professional Certified Coach (PCC), Certified Substance Abuse Professional, Registered Yoga Teacher, Certified Mediator, and a NSCA-certified Personal Trainer.
Known to many as "the constant gardener," Kwasi brings presence, patience, and purpose to every interaction. Whether in boardrooms or classrooms, correctional facilities or clinical settings, he nurtures potential in environments often dismissed as barren- teaching others to find growth where others see no light, no water, and no fertile soil.
