I am among the most experienced spinal trauma surgeons in the world. My original research contributions to the peer-reviewed spinal literature are numerous. During my 34-year career, I served as the chief of spinal surgery, the director of spine surgery fellowship training, and have lectured in many foreign countries. I am a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. Earlier in my career, I was the Armed Forces Regional Expert on spine care, and I still hold my military teaching appointment at the Armed Forces Medical School. Recently, I was awarded the AO Spine North America Educator of the Year award for my outstanding teaching abilities in the field of spinal surgery.ResearchI am the author of 8 book chapters in spinal surgery textbooks as well as over 70 scientific articles in peer-reviewed spine journals. I serve as a medical reviewer for the Journal of Spinal Disorders, Global Spine Journal, The Spine Journal, Geriatric Orthopaedics, and Current Opinion in Orthopaedics. Recently, I was elected as the North American Spine Ranking Member of the Ethics Committee for AO North America.
