Biography

Dr. Karelsky is an Associate Professor of Clinical Otolaryngology and Chief of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at Highland Hospital. She treats a broad range of ENT problems as well as specializes in advanced diagnosis and surgical treatment of obstructive sleep apnea.

Dr. Karelsky offers drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) and comprehensive surgical options to patients with obstructive sleep apnea who do not tolerate CPAP and are looking for alternative treatment. Currently Dr. Karelsky is the only surgeon performing InspireTM upper airway stimulation implant surgery in the region. Dr. Karelsky sees patients at our Highland office.

Professional Background

Dr. Karelsky is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. Dr. Karelsky is a native of Russia who has lived in the United States since childhood. She was undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley and graduated with a BA in molecular and cell biology. Her seminal undergraduate research work on short interfering RNA was published in the journal Nature. She subsequently completed medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, and has recently graduated from the otolaryngology program at the University of Rochester. Dr. Karelsky practices primarily at Highland Hospital and provides a wide range of ear, nose and throat services to both children and adults. Her academic interests include improving patient care through improving hospital systems, education and communication.
