Biography

Dr. Leonard has been a practicing pediatric hospitalist since 1999. His clinical focus is providing and coordinating comprehensive, family-centered pediatric care in the inpatient setting, particularly to infants and young children.

Professional Background

Dr. Leonard is the Associate Chief Quality Officer for the University of Rochester Medical Center and the Chief Quality Officer for the Golisano Children's Hospital. In these roles, he oversees many quality improvement initiatives across the organization, working with teams of physicians, nurses, clinical staff and administrators to create a safe environment of care. He also serves as the Chief Experience Officer for the children's hospital, partnering with the medical center's Office of the Patient Experience to promote efforts that ensure patient and family-centered care is consistently delivered. Dr. Leonard is the current American Academy of Pediatrics liaison to the Joint Commission.

Research

Dr. Leonard's research interests are in the area of Improvement Science, specifically:

Developing and evaluating strategies to improve the quality of patient care, increase efficiency, and reduce the risk of medical errors and adverse events.

Integrating interprofessional improvement science education for students, trainees, faculty and clinical staff.
