I am a board certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in shoulder surgery. I have been practicing at the University of Rochester since 2009, and perform both open and arthroscopic surgery in adolescent and adult patients. The most common conditions I treat are shoulder arthritis, instability (dislocations), and rotator cuff disease. I have been lucky to take part in several groundbreaking research initiatives over the years that have contributed new techniques and training methods to the greater orthopedic community.
I also serve as the Chief Medical Information Officer for the health system. I am a champion and leader for implementing, advancing, and optimizing our clinical technology systems so that we can deliver truly personalized care and achieve outstanding outcomes and awesome patient and provider experiences.

My current research focuses on strategically leveraging technology to automate much of our data and insight generation, enabling us to deliver truly personalized healthcare experiences and better outcomes for our patients. My favorite outcome of this work is that it frees providers by getting them away from computers and enables more quality, face to face care time with patients. I am also continuing to conduct research on orthopedic skills education driving the transformation from the “see one, do one, teach one” training model to one of “prepare, perform, and perfect”. This includes developing assessments of surgical skill, surgical simulators, and surgical skills curricula with the goal of ensuring a baseline skill set for all orthopedic surgeons.
