Biography

Dr. Ketonis specializes in the treatment of hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder problems. He treats all aspects of upper extremity trauma, degenerative conditions such as arthritis, reconstruction as well peripheral nerve pathologies. His clinical interests include joint arthroplasty, arthroscopic treatment of hand and upper extremity problems including the rotator cuff of the shoulder, minimally invasive endoscopic procedures as well as microsurgery.

Dr. Ketonis earned his M.D. from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where he was also awarded a Ph.D. in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine for his work on antimicrobial modification of orthopaedic implants. He completed his orthopaedic surgery training at The Rothman Institute in Philadelphia and went on to complete a fellowship in upper extremity/ hand surgery and microsurgery at the prestigious Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore.

In addition, he has served as an Officer in the Cypriot National Guard and in Special Forces Training with the Green Berets. He has also been a martial arts instructor and won awards at national competitions.

Research

Dr Ketonis continues to utilize his background in basic science and clinical research to advance the field of orthopedics. He has authored numerous publications and book chapters on topics related to hand surgery, prosthetics, infection and bone grafts, and he frequently presents at the national and international levels. Dr. Ketonis is the recipient of several prestigious awards and honors, as well as research grants. He also holds U.S. Patents on implant modification technologies, as well as novel 3D-printed devices that he designed to address hand conditions.

Remaining heavily involved in research, his newest endeavors include utilization of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning in the interpretation of medical imaging, automated ultrasound evaluation of scar formation on tendons and also is investigating the mechanisms of infection establishment on biological tissues.
