Biography

Susan Nelson, M.D., M.P.H., F.R.C.S.C. joins our team from Oxford University Hospitals in England where she completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery. Prior to this she also completed a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She earned her medical degree at Queen's University in Ontario, Canada and her Master's in Public Health from Harvard University. Dr. Nelson completed her orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, earning fellowship with The Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Nelson specializes in pediatric orthopaedic surgery, treating spinal disorders and deformities including adolescent idiopathic and early onset scoliosis, developmental dysplasia of the hip, neuromuscular conditions, and pediatric trauma. She has published articles and book chapters on pediatric spinal deformity, pediatric hip, and trauma topics. Dr. Nelson has an interest in population and public health; most recently her research has focused on epidemiology of common pediatric orthopaedic conditions and post-operative pain management in the pediatric population.

Away from work she enjoys outdoor activities and is an avid equestrian, cyclist, and skier. She looks forward to exploring with her family all that Rochester and the surrounding area have to offer.
