Dr Paul Caito provides Low Vision care to visually impaired and legally blind individuals at the Flaum Eye Institute’s South Clinton location. He trained in Low Vision at the Center for the Blind in Philadelphia in conjunction with the well-known and respected Feinbloom Low Vision Center. He is an accredited NYS Low Vision Specialist and has been a Low Vision consultant at ABVI-Goodwill since 1983 prior to ABVI’s collaboration with Flaum Eye Institute. Dr. Caito was awarded the Visionary Award by ABVI-Goodwill in 2002 in recognition of his contributions to the Low Vision Community.

He is also an adjunct clinical instructor in Ophthalmology at Rochester Institute of Technology for the Physician Assistant Program since 1996 and has been a Preceptor in Low Vision for optometry students through the State University of New York School of Optometry. Among the options available to achieve visual improvement, Dr. Caito and fellow doctors in the Low Vision Center may use high powered hand and stand magnifiers, high strength prism reading glasses, electronic video magnification systems, spectacle mounted telescopic devices and/or various levels of light filtering sunglasses. In collaboration with Goodwill Vision Enterprises, Dr. Caito works with a Vision Rehabilitation team that includes Home Rehab teachers, Orientation & Mobility Instructors, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers to help patients achieve their visual goals to live and work as independently as possible.

Dr. Caito is a member of the American Optometric Association, the New York State Optometric Association and is Past-President of the Rochester Optometric Society. He also maintains a private practice in primary eyecare and has been an FDA Clinical Investigator for many major contact lens companies and solution manufacturers, including Bausch & Lomb and CooperVision.
