Biography

Professional Background

“The most important task I carry out each time I meet a child and their family, is to alleviate their angst, worry and fear while keeping the child safe, and comfortable before, during and after their surgery. I meet them at their most vulnerable and stressful time, often just minutes before the surgery, and it’s a privilege to earn their trust that I will safeguard their child’s life, comfort, and safety through their healthcare journey.”

I am a quadruple board certified physician with specializations in pediatric anesthesiology, pediatric pain, palliative care and integrative medicine. My clinical practice is rooted in evidence based and holistic approach to healthcare and wellness of children in the acute perioperative, chronic pain management or community settings. A strong advocate for ensuring highest levels of quality and safety in the care of pediatric patients, I have worked with state regulatory agencies and medical boards to establish guidelines for appropriate and safe pain care.

I am a founding member of the Society for Pediatric Pain Medicine (SPPM), and later elected as the president of the Society. I have also served on the Board of Directors for the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA), currently a member of the Pediatric Anesthesia Leadership Council as well as serving as a mentor and coach for the Women Empowerment and Leadership Initiative (WELI), a leadership initiative by the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia.

My clinical and translational research interests and activities have been focused on leveraging technology for improved access to, and delivery of safe pain care and education This work was supported through 3 multidisciplinary NIH funded grants utilizing Telehealth. Another area of clinical research I have been involved in is the Complementary and Integrative Medicine Therapies for pediatric perioperative care and pain management.

I strive for improved access to high quality, expert healthcare regardless of the geographic location of the recipient. To that effect I have been engaged in Global Health work in low- and middle-income countries (India and Africa) for the past 14 years contributing to creation of an international consortium which serves as a prototype for sustainable global health providing clinical care delivery, research and education for bladder exstrophy and epispadias management.

I have leveraged use of technology for healthcare education and delivery through an online education and consultation platform (Proactive Pain Solutions), training healthcare professionals in pediatric pain medicine and assisting healthcare institutions with operationalizing efficient and effective pediatric pain care programs.
