Mapping an SMDNAS Share
How to Access the Share
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have all of the following:
- URMC-issued and supported computer.
- Valid and active URMC login.
- Computer is connected to:
- The URMC network (via wired or WiFi connection), OR
- The URMC VPN (GlobalProtect) is for remote access.
If you’ve been added to a new share or received an email confirming access, you must log out of your computer and log back in to update your permissions. Save any open work before logging out.
For Windows Users
- Open File Explorer.
- Click on This PC in the left-hand menu.
- Select Map Network Drive from the top toolbar.
- Choose a drive letter.
- Enter the share path:
\\smdnas02.urmc-sh.rochester.edu\sharename. - Check the box labeled "Reconnect at sign-in."
- Click Finish.
For Mac and Linux Users
- From your desktop, click Go in the top menu bar.
- Select Connect to Server.
- Enter the share path:
smb://smdnas02/sharename. - Click Connect.
Requesting Access
To request access to a new share or to add a new user to a share, please visit the Service Portal.
Please note: we do not allow you to request access for yourself for security reasons. Please have a supervisor or manager request access to a shared drive on your behalf.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you’re having trouble accessing the share, confirm the following:
- You are using a URMC-issued computer.
- You are entering your URMC credentials.
- Your computer is connected to:
- Ethernet or Wireless5 (if on-site), OR
- GlobalProtect VPN (if off-site).
If the issue persists, try logging out and back into your computer.
Unsupported Configurations
- Personal computers (non-URMC issued).
- Computers not connected to the URMC network or VPN.
- Using non-URMC credentials.
- Multiple users logged into the same computer.
