Using URMC Wireless
The URMC wireless networks are intended to provide students, faculty and staff direct access to school resources using the industry standard 802.1X authentication and encryption.
We have two Wireless Networks:
- UR_MCwireless5 is for faculty, staff, students, and contractors who have established URMC network accounts.
- UR_MCguest is for patients, families, and visitors.
Faculty, Staff, Students and Contractors: UR_MCwireless5
Only faculty, staff, students, and contractors with a URMC Domain account (user name and password used to log into email) can access the URMC secure network wirelessly at the Medical Center campus (including Strong Memorial), Highland Hospital, and most URMC off-site locations. Once on the network, you will be able to connect to:
- URMC email
- Network shared drives
- Internet
- URMC Intranet
- Network Applications (eRecord, Flowcast, etc.)
Most URMC computers are automatically configured to link to the UR_MCwireless network. However, some computers will not automatically connect to the wireless network and must be configured individually. Click on the link for configuration instructions (select your computer's operating system).
Note: Some applications may experience problems on the wireless network and are more suited for wired access. The wireless network should not be used as a replacement for hard-wired ports.
Patients, Families, and Guests: UR_MCguest
Patients, families, and their guests can access our guest wireless networks at Strong Memorial and Highland Hospitals, and the Medical Center campus. Most visitors can connect to the wireless network without assistance.
