Before the procedure begins, you will receive general anesthesia. This procedure will take an hour or two and is usually an outpatient procedure, so you'll be able to go home after surgery. Although, some partial abdominoplasties require a short stay in the hospital.
How the Procedure is Performed
A partial abdominoplasty involves a shorter incision and the navel may not be moved, as it is in a complete abdominoplasty procedure. The skin flap is also smaller, going from the incision only to the navel. The excess skin is removed and the flap is stretched back into place.
When the procedure is finished, your surgeon closes the incisions with small stitches and covers them with bandages. A small drainage tube may be inserted under your skin for several days to drain excess fluid from the surgery.
Risks
All surgery involves some risk and uncertainty. Serious complications or side effects of this surgery are rare, but they include:
- Blood clots
- Infection
- Bad reactions to the anesthesia
- Need for additional surgery to correct the scar created by the first procedure
