Principles in Stem Cell Biology (GEN 506)

Available Spring 2020, Now Open to Undergraduate Students!

Team taught by UofR researchers actively working in the field of stem cell research, this course is an excellent opportunity for students to prepare for a future career in regenerative medicine, industry or graduate research. Or simply come to learn about one of the major revolutions in modern medicine!

This course is designed to cover: (1) basic principles in stem cell science, (2) the role of stem cell dysfunction in disease, (3) potential therapeutic applications of stem cells, (4) principles of embryonic stem cell and iPSC research and (5) managing the transition from the laboratory to the clinic. The course is structured by combining lectures and Journal Club-style group discussions. The course will be accompanied by “Essentials of Stem Cell Biology” (R. Lanza Ed.). Two take home exams and Journal Club participation will be the basis of student evaluations.

A solid foundation in cell biology, biochemistry and/or molecular biology is needed. Please contact the course director with questions: chris_proschel@urmc.rochester.edu
