Support & Survivorship

Support

Lung cancer can affect some of the most basic human functions. Wilmot Cancer Institute provides the most extensive support services for patients and their families in the area.

Survivorship

A healthy life after cancer is the goal of every patient. But the best way to achieve that varies widely — depending on you, your type of cancer, and the treatment you received. The Wilmot Cancer Institute offers the area’s only Survivorship Program. Each patient receives a comprehensive, personalized plan for life after lung cancer. To learn more about the program, talk with your care team.

Palliative care

At Wilmot Cancer Institute, physicians from UR Medicine’s Palliative Care Program are key members of the care team. Sometimes confused with hospice, palliative care can accompany any and all desired medical treatment for cancer or other conditions. Palliative care focuses on alleviating the pain and symptoms — such as nausea and shortness of breath — that can come with a serious illness like cancer and its treatment. It is about helping those facing cancer and their families live better while they’re undergoing treatment.
