What is Telestroke?

UR Medicine is dedicated to delivering advanced, rapid stroke care to patients throughout the Finger Lakes, Upstate New York, and beyond. Our innovative stroke program offers emergency telestroke consultations via video technology at several hospitals and emergency departments across New York—extending our expertise to locations as far as 200 miles from Rochester.

UR Medicine's Approach

24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our vascular neurologists are ready to interact with patients, families, and medical providers using a real-time video connection. They also review brain imaging and other data to make decisions regarding acute stroke interventions such as intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular therapy. Our neurologists help initiate timely transfers to Strong Memorial Hospital or other regional hospitals; alternatively, we will also coordinate care with local providers if a patient remains at their home hospital.

Our nationally recognized, highly trained stroke and neurocritical care team provides comprehensive care for all types of stroke and cerebrovascular diseases. State-of-the-art neuroimaging capabilities and immediate access to all subspecialists offer patients the most sophisticated medical and surgical treatments necessary for the best outcomes. UR Medicine is also home to the 13th Mobile Stroke Unit in the nation.
