Guidance for SMH Employees with Symptoms of Infectious Illness

If you require immediate medical attention, call 911.

If you require non-urgent medical advice, evaluation, or treatment, please contact your primary care provider (PCP) or other personal healthcare provider.

Employees must notify their manager or supervisor of absence from work following their department’s call-in procedures.

Please refer to the Work Restrictions for SMH Employees with Infectious Diseases policy (VPN may be required to access). In general, employees with symptoms which suggest infectious illness should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication, and symptoms should be mild and improving before returning to work on site. Symptoms that suggest infection may include but are not limited to fever, chills, cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, difficulty breathing, muscle or body aches, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, headache, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of appetite.

COVID work restrictions and return to work criteria should be followed by staff who test positive for COVID (VPN may be required to access this document). SMH no longer routinely tracks staff with COVID, and you do not need to submit documentation of a positive COVID test. Employee Health does not provide COVID testing. If you feel you need to be tested for COVID, please use a home test or contact your personal healthcare provider.

Employee Health staff cannot answer questions regarding contagion pay. Please review the Reassignment/Absence to Prevent Contagion Due to Workplace Exposure policy, or contact Human Resources at 585-ASK-URHR or ASK-URHR@ur.rochester.edu with questions.
