Learning Objectives
- Learn about implications of common medical conditions on the delivery of dental treatment.
- Recognize the complexity of restoring dento-alveolar anomalies.
- Increase awareness of syndromes that may impact the dento-alveolar anatomy.
- Review principles of safe use of lasers in dentistry and oral medicine
- Understand considerations in the dental management of patients with cognitive disorders.
- Recognize the role of dentistry in the care of patients with complex medical backgrounds.
- Apprehend the new developments in imaging of oral and dental tissues.
Educational Objectives
- An overview of contemporary oral medicine for the general practitioner with emphasis on dental management of medically complex patients. Key topics will include dental rehabilitation of patients with dento-alveolar anomalies, unique aspects of dental care in diabetes patients, the implications of respiratory diseases on the dental treatment, management of patients with cognitive or neurologic conditions, advances in dental and oral imaging techniques.
- Likewise, the conference will provide a review about principles of safe use of laser in the dental practice. The course will allow participants to take an exam for Basic Laser Safety.

Speakers
Stephanie M. Munz, DDS, FSCD
Dr. Munz is a Clinical Associate Professor, Walter H. Swartz Professor of Integrated Special Care Dentistry and Associate Chair of Hospital Dentistry in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Hospital Dentistry at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She teaches General Practice Residents and predoctoral dental students about hospital-based clinical practice topics, including prosthetic treatments and medically necessary dentistry for patients with cancer, craniofacial anomalies, trauma, medical complexity and special healthcare needs. She is committed to developing the next generation of oral health professionals to care for unique populations and collaborate with other professions across multiple settings.
Milda Chmieliauskaite, DMD, MPH
Dr. Chmieliauskaite is an Assistant Professor at the University of Washington School of Dentistry and the Graduate Program Director of the Oral Medicine MSD/residency program. She obtained her Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.), Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) degrees, and Oral Medicine residency training from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Chmieliauskaite currently teaches predoctoral and postdoctoral students on topics within medical conditions affecting dental patients, oral medicine, and orofacial pain. Her scholarly work focuses on orofacial pain, head and neck cancer, and HPV vaccination. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Medicine and an active member of the American Academy of Oral Medicine co-chairing a committee and serving as a board member.
Miriam Robbins, DDS, MS
Dr. Robbins is a Professor of Clinical Oral Medicine and Clinical Restorative Dentistry at Penn Dental Medicine. She is the inaugural Director of the Care Center for Persons with Disabilities, a facility at Penn Dental Medicine that is dedicated to improving the oral health and quality of life for people with all forms of disability. She is a past President of the Special Care Dentistry Association and the American Academy of Oral Medicine. She is a Diplomat of American Board of Special Care Dentistry and American Academy of Oral Medicine (hon), a Fellow of the American Association of Hospital Dentists, the American Academy of Oral Medicine, the International and American College of Dentists, National Academies of Practice and the College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
Praveen Arany, BDS, MDS, MMSc, PhD
Dr. Arany is an Associate Professor of Oral Biology at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. He has adjunct appointments in Surgery, Biomedical Engineering, Nursing, and Physical Therapy. He completed a joint PhD-Residency program as a Harvard Presidential Scholar and holds certificates in clinical translational research from Harvard Medical School and the National Institute of Health. He pursued additional fellowships at the Indian Institute of Sciences, the National Cancer Institute and Harvard’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences & Wyss Institute. He has published over 125 peer-reviewed articles, recipient of numerous awards, and active member of organizations promoting lasers and photobiomodulation (WALT, NAALT, Optica, SPIE). Dr. Arany’s work has been featured in mainstream media such as Fox news, CNN, BBC, and Reuters.
Anusha Vaddi, BDS, MDS, MDSc
Dr. Vaddi is an Assistant Professor of Oral Radiology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. She holds a Master of Dental Surgery in Oral Medicine and Radiology from India, a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the University of Connecticut. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Radiology. Dr. Vaddi specializes in teaching radiographic techniques and interpretation to dental and hygiene students, including CBCT. An active researcher, she has published extensively on oral cancer, digital radiography, and CBCT. She serves on editorial boards, including BMC Oral Health, and is chair-elect of ADEA’s OMR Section.
Sharon Elad, DMD, MSc
Dr. Elad is a Professor of Dentistry at the University of Rochester, where she is Chair of the Division of Oral Medicine at the Eastman Institute for Oral Health, and a Principal Consultant for Hospital Dentistry at University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY, USA. Previously, Dr. Elad served as the Chair of the Mucositis Study Group of MASCC/ISOO and led the development of international clinical practice guidelines about mucositis. Currently, Dr. Elad serves as the Chair of the Oral Care Study Group of MASCC/ISOO. Dr. Elad is involved in research collaborations on topics interlacing oral medicine, hematology/oncology, and dentistry, and she is the site PI for NIH-funded research.

Registration includes 2 steps. At the end of each step you will receive an email:
- 1st email - Confirmation of payment and a link to the 2nd step.
- 2nd email - Confirmation of registration and a Zoom link to log in to the conference.
In order to retrieve your login information, you must complete step two of your registration. There is no additional fee involved for the 2nd step of the registration.

CE Credit Certificate
The CE credit certificate will be sent to the email address that was used during the online registration. Please note that the name you enter during registration will be used to prepare your CE credit certificate. Therefore, please register with your full first and last name.

Basic Laser Safety Certificate
Proof of Basic Laser Safety training will be included in the CE credit certificate for attendees that fully attend this training and pass the basic laser safety exam. This Basic Laser Safety certificate fulfils the requirement for an annual laser safety training in Eastman Institute for Oral Health, URMC, Rochester, NY.
EIOH RDHs and DAs are welcome to attend the laser education and laser safety exam. If EIOH RDHs’ and DAs’ registration is limited to this section, the certificate will reflect these activities only (separate from the CE credit certificate for the full-day continuous education).

Cancellation Policy
All cancellations must be faxed or e-mailed. Refund of registration fee will be as follows:
- Before March 8, 2025 - 100% refund
- From March 8, 2025 until April 7, 2025 - 50% refund
- No refund on cancellations received after April 8, 2025
Registration will only be valid upon receipt of the full payment by the registration department according to the deadline indicated. A confirmation of registration will only be sent after receipt of the required fees.
